1.For here or to go?
2. Does it go with drinks?
3. Is that all?
That's it!
4. Here you go!
5. I am fixing to go out.
I am about to leave.
6. I'll fix the plate for you.
第一次聽到我室友說(shuō) I can fix the plate for you, 我立刻反應(yīng)是, Is there any plate broken?
7. He is a redneck.
8. He has a bad accent.
9. Heidi, Hire Yew?
這句話也是很典型的南方打招呼用語(yǔ), 我想這原來(lái)是 Howdy, How are you?
10. Oh hell no.
Oh hell no 其實(shí)就是等于 Of course not. 比如你問(wèn)我, Are you married? Oh hell no. I am still single.
11. I went to Europe last month because my friends live over there.
通常他們不分東邊或是西邊,一律用 over there 或是 out there. 這時(shí)你就可以說(shuō) live out there 或是 live over there.
12. I drove all the way up to Boston.
All the way 翻成中文就是"一路到底" 的意思. 這個(gè)片語(yǔ)常跟 up 或 down 合用, 例如你說(shuō) I drove all the way up there. 或是比方說(shuō)去溜滑梯, 你就可以說(shuō) You can slide all the way down to the the bottom.
13. Never look down on people less superior than you.
Look down on someone 所以才會(huì)說(shuō) Look down. 要是很看得起某人, 則是說(shuō) Look up on someone.
14. Can you keep it down?
還好我朋友這時(shí)挺身而出, 跑去跟他們說(shuō) Can you keep it down?
15. Do you take money?
Do you take money? 要是他說(shuō) Yes, 再問(wèn)他 How much?
這句話你也可以簡(jiǎn)單地問(wèn), Is it free? There's no such thing as a free lunch.
16. Have you heard of Buffalo, New York? My parents live up there.
你說(shuō) live up there 那一定是指在北方. 像水牛城地理在美國(guó)的北方, 我在亞特蘭大就可以跟別人說(shuō) My parents live up there.
17 . Hey, look at the girl up there.
Look the girl down there
18. Let's call it a wash.
假設(shè)我欠你 9.8 塊, 你欠我 10 塊錢, 這時(shí)說(shuō) Let's call it a wash, 就是" 差不多, 不用算了, 不用計(jì)較" 的意思羅!
19. Pass the hat.
結(jié)果有個(gè)老美跟我說(shuō). pass the hat.
如果你去參加了一個(gè)所謂 pass the hat 的聚會(huì), 就一定會(huì)用到 put in (plug in) 這個(gè)動(dòng)詞. 例如, Everybody puts in 5 dollars.
20. Let's chip in 20 dollars to buy him a present.
Chip in 就是大家出錢的意思, 這跟以前介紹過(guò)的 pass the hat 有點(diǎn)類似. Let's chip in some money to call the locksmith.
21. How much is the cover?
How much to get in? How much is the cover? How much to get in?
22. I am broke.
比方說(shuō)別人邀請(qǐng)你去吃飯, 你可以說(shuō) No, I am broke. Maybe next time.
23. She just got a sugar dad.
24. Ching-Ching.
25. Is she big-boned?
Is she big-boned?
